Global Cafe & Market Grand Opening

Buena Vista’s ‘Global Café & Market’ Grand Opening
8 July 2008 (Buena Vista, CO) – Global Garage today announced a grand opening date of Monday, July 14, for the Global Café & Market, located within the Global Garage retail store at 222 Hwy 24 South in Buena Vista.
Global Café & Market is a planet-conscious organization serving reasonably-price yet gourmet, fresh-from-scratch soups, salads, breads, sandwiches and snacks with a hint of globalism. Executive Chef Andrea Bartone oversees the café and market.
“Andrea’s boundless energy and enthusiasm for good food and wine is a marvel,” says Cristina Canazares, who together with her husband, Cullen, founded Global Garage in July 2006. “It’s a ton of fun watching her develop our menu and wine list, and although I love to cook, I know to stay out of the way. If she lets me, I’ll be a ‘guest chef’ from time to time,” Canazares quips.
Andrea formerly operated as Trio at the Evergreen Café, and is the former Executive Chef of the Fritz Alpine Bistro in Keystone, Colorado. Prior to that, Andrea was Executive Chef of Franciscan Estates (Now known as Icon Estates) in Napa Valley, which encompassed seven separate winery estates throughout California and Chile: Franciscan Oakville Estate, Quintessa and Mt. Veeder wineries in Napa Valley; Simi, Ravenswood and Estancia wineries in Sonoma and Monterey counties; and the Veramonte Estate in the Casablanca Valley of Chile. Andrea worked as Hospitality Manager for Ravenswood.
Andrea prepares gourmet meals using only the finest, seasonal ingredients. The result is food with bright, intense flavors as well as integrity. Her fresh style is reflective of California ingenuity and energy combined with a distinctly European flair. She is well known for her inventive sauces, flavors and artful presentations and was named “Outstanding Winery Chef” by Food Arts Magazine. Andrea worked with chefs such as Hubert Keller, Roland Passot and Jean-Pierre Dubray. Her work has led her to cater events in over 60 wineries in Napa Valley and Sonoma County. Andrea is an active member of the Slow Food Movement and was showcased in 2000 at the honorable James Beard Foundation in New York City. Andrea graduated from the prestigious Culinary School at the Baltimore International College.
Nichole Scar, also formerly of Trio, will be working at the Cafe as the Pastry Chef. "Nichole is a natural when it comes to baking and pastry; she makes everything from fabulous tarts, cookies and multigrain breads to elegant wedding cakes. She also likes to experiment with cuisine from different cultures and will certainly raise the bar with daily great fresh baked goods at the Café," states Bartone.
Global Café and Market operates daily from 7am to 9pm. The café features homemade baked goods, a full lunch menu including four new gourmet soups daily, creative sandwiches, salads, all-day snacks and appetizers, and several dinner entrees. Nightly dinner specials are also offered. The menu updates seasonally and with the availability of new products.
The market sells breads, gourmet cheeses and meats and other ‘picnic -friendly’ items. Additional, hard-to-get items such as ethic and global ingredients will be added over time. “Think Trader Joe’s meets gourmet picnic aficionado,’ says Canazares.
Happy hour features global appetizer platters suitable for snacking or sharing, and an extensive wine list and Colorado beers. Cocktails such as sangria, margaritas, and other themed drinks will complement food specials. Global Café’s Signature Happy Hour Shrimp cocktail is a deal at $7. The café serves fresh roasted espresso drinks, using their Italian-made La Marzocco espresso machine with coffee supplied locally from the Buena Vista Roastery. “We invested in quality so our guests will receive the best possible cup of coffee,” says Canazares. We’re thrilled to have Buena Vista Roastery as our supplier, since we all fully support fair trade and quality, organic products.”
Catering and special event hosting is available. Global Café & Market seats 34-40 indoors plus 50+ outdoors. Global Garage and Global Café & Market offer free, wireless internet.
“We hope to create a fun, warm and friendly place…whether guest are lingering on the patio or grabbing a quick bite to go…where prices are reasonable yet the food is great,” concludes Canazares.
